Personal Life

Growing up, Ava Van Jenson was adopted and raised by her grandparents who are immigrants from Vietnam. When her father left when she was three years old, her mother never became the same again. As an orphan, Ava lived in the poorest area of Renton, Washington, which is still one of the most undeserved areas in King County today. Ava and her grandparents survived in part through welfare and food stamps. On many days, she recalls they did not have enough food to eat. She remembers asking God throughout her childhood, “Why me?”

It wasn’t until she got older that she realized God would never allow deep pain without a greater purpose. When she looks back at her life so far, she feels truly blessed with everything He has provided, the good and the bad, and especially things she would never imagine for herself or the philanthropy projects she would lead regionally and internationally.

“If her journey has taught her anything, it is sometimes our path is much more difficult than others because our purpose is much bigger than we ever imagined.”

Today, Ava uses her humble beginnings to serve her community, a very special place that is near and dear to her heart. Her life mission is to fight for truth and justice for the vulnerable, while bringing miracles into their life the way many people have brought them into hers.

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.”
- Psalm 113:7
